Medplum storage capacity

Hello everyone, how are you? I'm here to collect a benchmark that is relatively simple, but that will make a huge difference in our project. We are thinking about opening our Medplum FHIR server to receive data from the entire state here in Brazil, we are in the state of Goiás (GO). One question: From our developers and users, what is the maximum capacity that we can consider when using Medplum in terms of data volume? Is there anyone who has already reached millions, billions or even trillions of data stored who can tell us what the performance is? These are questions that we need to answer now that we are expanding and scaling FHIR in Brazil. Thank you very much!

Hi @Adriano Freitas I would recommend checking our docs on load testing - https://www.medplum.com/docs/self-hosting/load-testing
That should give you a good place to start with your evaluation

Thanks for the quick response! This is great documentation and tools for testing Medplum performance. It will be useful, thank you very much! However, I would like to know if we already have a use case where Medplum is storing a universe of data that exceeds billions, for example, and how they are dealing with the Medplum App and Medplum Server. I wanted to gather more information, you know? To know what people are using out there! Thank you very much for your help!

@Adriano Freitas we definitely have users who have acheived significant scale, in the millions. High volume clinical resources tend to be: * Observations * Communications
In general, we've been able to handle these loads without problem, even on our hosted multi-tenant system. If you're self-hosting, you should have even more room to run. We've seen a lot of success with vertical scaling, so billions of records should be fine as well (we have not sen that yet in our implementations)
I'll caveat all of this in that it dpeends on your access patterns. Complicated searches such as nested graphQL queries and multiple includes can run slower when there are many rows
