Hi, I am trying to integrate Bots into my self hosted Medplum instance. It is not hosted on AWS and I will not be able to host it there. Therefore I need a way to integrate the Bots into this environment. I try to integrate it with the vmcontext. But when I want to create a bot, I get the error message Binary storage not initialized. As I am not in an AWS environment I can´t use the S3 Buckets. Is there a way to integrate another bucket than S3?

Hi @denniscod - right now we only support AWS S3 for binary storage, but we have given this some thought.
We have a GH discussion around the a "plug-in architecture" for the server. This would allow developers to write adapters for different storage providers https://github.com/medplum/medplum/discussions/1424

We would love your feedback on this discussion. Insights into your specific application and cloud setup would be helpful

It is definitely our goal to eventually support many different cloud providers , but unfortunately the earliest we will be able to start this work would be in 2024

Great thanks! I now made the bots work with the local file system, but we would definitaly need a solution for general file storage and the file system will not be suitable for uploading many files.
I will also look into the solution if we can just point to another bucket.

There should be a way to do something with bots that doesn't need AWS.... Hmmm

Yes, I managed to make the bots work without AWS, I had some confusion because the documentation was not very specific on how to make it work, maybe this can be improved a little bit for people that also need them to work. But still as I read, it is not recommended to run the bots int he vmContext in production environment.
